Job description
The apprenticeship will involve joining the internal audit team at AWE for a period of 6 – 12 months. The internal audit role involves delivering internal audits/ third line assurance to the AWE CEO and Audit Committee.
Internal audits will be conducted following an audit methodology and using an audit management system which has been developed by the Government Internal Audit Agency to align with Global Internal Audit Standards (GIAS).
The team are based on the Aldermaston site and is a mix of office based /site and home working.
The Chartered Institute of Internal Auditors supports a number of apprenticeship levels.
This role may appeal to you if you enjoy:

Entry Requirements:
- 5 GCSE Grade 4/C or above including Maths and English
- 2 A levels Grade C or above or equivalent Level 3 qualifications. If you do not have the required Level 3 qualifications but have relevant work experience of at least two years’ please contact earlycareers@awe.co.uk to discuss.

Start Date: Tuesday 1st September 2026
Annual leave will not be granted from 1st September until 2nd October 2026 due to mandatory inductions you are required to complete as part of your apprenticeship. Any leave approved after this point will depend on the training provider requirements for your apprenticeship and must be agreed in advance.

These roles are governed by Health and Safety at Work Regulations and require all candidates to have an Occupational Health pre-employment medical held at AWE which follows the initial selection process. All candidates must be willing and able to obtain and maintain the necessary security clearance for the role and be willing and able to work in designated areas.
