Electrical Maintenance (Level 3 – Advanced)

Job description

During your first half of the apprenticeship at AWE, you will train in our Skills Academy, as well as attend day release at college. This is where you learn all about electrical theory, cabling and wiring infrastructure. You will then go on to individually produce around 40 projects, where you will be involved in designing, installing, repairing, and maintaining electrical systems. You will be taught how to test your circuit and what common faults to highlight, and how to rectify them. You will be taught how to safely isolate circuits, and how to carry out theory for the cable calculations, power, etc.

The second half of the apprenticeship, you will join the qualified trades people onsite where you will receive on-the-job training as an electrical engineer. Typically, this will involve six separate three-month placements, which will broaden your electrical knowledge and expose you to the full spectrum of our plant and facilities. These placements can include facility engineering, electrical utilities, and design compliance, & lightning protection systems.

This role may appeal to you if:
You have an interest in understanding how electrical assemblies work as well high and low voltage systems, enjoy inspection and fault-finding activities, being hands on and applying engineering principles into real life scenarios, then we would love to hear from you!

Entry Requirements:

  • 5 GCSEs at grade 4/C or above including Maths and English (Science desirable)
  • Applicants must be aged 16 or over, as of 31st August 2026 due to security clearance requirements
  • You must be a British National to apply for a role with us.
  • If you currently hold a Level 3 Diploma in Engineering or similar, you should consider applying for a degree level apprenticeship.

Start Date: Tuesday 1st September 2026
Annual leave will not be granted from 1st September until 2nd October 2026 due to mandatory inductions you are required to complete as part of your apprenticeship. Any leave approved after this point will depend on the training provider requirements for your apprenticeship and must be agreed in advance.

Duration:
36 months plus 3 months End Point Assessment.

These roles are governed by Health and Safety at Work Regulations and require all candidates to have an Occupational Health pre-employment medical held at AWE which follows the initial selection process. All candidates must be willing and able to obtain and maintain the necessary security clearance for the role and be willing and able to work in designated areas.
