Paralegal Academy

Job description

There's more than one path into a law career, and our Paralegal Academy offers a brilliant new way to build an exciting future in our Casualty Practice. If you're fresh out of university, or you're switching careers, we've designed this fantastic programme to nurture you as a Paralegal and help you become part of an amazing story - ours.

Working closely with our Partners and experienced fee earners, you'll play an important role in our Casualty teams with a workload that ranges from running your own cases, to assisting in complex, high value claims. Covering a range of areas from Credit Hire to Catastrophic Injury, you'll be involved in instructing counsel and medical experts, taking witness statements, assessing evidence, reviewing medical records, attending conferences, and much more.

We've designed our Paralegal Academy to offer the very best on the job training and experience in our sector. Our Paralegal Academy Lead will be on hand to keep everything running smoothly, and our Legal Training Manager will also support you with technical and structured training - so you can get the skills and experience to go further than you imagine. With our 1-week induction, quarterly training offering and our on-demand training sessions, you’ll find lots of support on hand.

Our Casualty teams comprise of some of the most experienced and knowledgeable practitioners in our industry, all ready to lead, guide and mentor you on your career journey. You'll work closely with our Partners on every aspect of the cases you support. And you'll discover a genuinely inclusive workplace that not only reflects the diversity of the communities we serve but offers unique opportunities to learn from an equally diverse team of experts.

When you join our Paralegal Academy, you'll experience a fully tailored programme of development and if you're one of our top performers, after 12-months in role you could apply for a place on one of our internal qualification routes, dependent on eligibility criteria.

What we offer

  • Competitive salary
  • No law experience required
  • Combination of office and hybrid working

We'll make sure you have plenty of support throughout your programme. You can also look forward to on-going internal training designed to ensure you have the skills, knowledge, and commercial acumen you need to become a well-rounded Paralegal.

What we are looking for

This is a brilliant opportunity for anyone who's interested in a law career - even if you've missed previous application deadlines, or if law wasn't your first career choice. You don't even need experience in law - what's most important is that you have a UK Bachelor’s degree at 2:2 or above in any subject, or an equivalent qualification.

We're looking for people with excellent communication, analytical and organisational skills, and an ability to work well under pressure and to strict deadlines. Some knowledge of the litigation process would also be useful - but it's not essential.

Key Requirements

  • 2:2 degree in any discipline*
  • BBC A-Level, Highers or equivalent (Mitigating circumstances will be taken into consideration)
  • Grade C/4 at GCSE English Literature, English Language and Maths

*Please note, for those in Scotland and Northern Ireland, you would need a relevant law degree for that jurisdiction to be eligible for internal qualification routes after 12-months.

How to apply

We use RARE a contextualised recruitment system to ensure fairness and equality, and we review applications holistically.

The Application Process
We are looking for applicants with the motivation to join our firm and potential to be successful in the role throughout our process. The application process varies slightly from programme to programme, but this is what you'll need to do for this opportunity:
  • Explore the programme specific information to understand which opportunity is the right one for you. You can only apply to one role.
  • Complete an online application
  • Online assessment – consisting of a critical reasoning test as well as our Clyde & Co strengths-based assessment, which contains a mix of question types including written and order ranking.
  • Video Interview - If you perform well in our initial online assessment, you will then be invited to complete a pre-recorded video interview.
  • Following this, if successful, we will be in contact to invite you to a virtual assessment centre, that will consist of a written task and a strengths-based interview.
*Please be note: Some of our teams within the Casualty Practice require Paralegals to travel as part of the role, therefore, our application form includes a question about driving licences and vehicles. Please note that your answer does not impact the outcome of your application, but is used to help assign successful candidates to teams*
Reasonable Adjustments
Please let us know if you need us to make adjustments or changes to the assessment process to help you best demonstrate your suitability for the role. We will do our best to accommodate your request. If you wish to discuss anything regarding the process, please contact Early Careers (EarlyCareers@clydeco.com).
You can find out more about the interview process and examples of adjustments we can put in place via this link A guide to reasonable adjustments, support and accessibility for our assessment process.
