Solicitor Apprenticeship

Job description

If you're keen to embark on a career in law without studying full time at university, a Solicitor Apprenticeship could be the right path for you.

The Marine team in Guildford

Clyde & Co's Guildford office has been serving clients since 1969, when it became the first new office to be established after we began our expansion beyond London. The office provides high quality international support to clients and also domestic advice and local assistance to clients based in the region.

Now the largest shipping practice in the world, Clyde & Co has specialist marine lawyers based in trading hubs around the globe, on call and serving clients' requirements in all time-zones at any time of day.

We act for the heart of the maritime industry - insurers, shipbuilders, owners, charterers, salvors, financiers, port authorities and government, and P&I clubs - and clients across the broader trade commodities and energy sector.

Our marine team in Guildford specialises in all aspects of cargo and freight claims, of all sizes. We act in a wide range of claims arising from the damage/loss of cargo in transit, whether it involves carriage by sea, air, rail or road. Our services also extend to logistics, yachts, marine trades, warehousing, ports and terminals.

What is a solicitor apprenticeship?

The solicitor apprenticeship is a six-year programme open to students as an alternative route to qualify as solicitors. During that time, you'll be part of the day-to-day operations of our legal teams. We'll partner you up with a buddy who will support you during your time with us and introduce you to an incredible network of people.

As part of the solicitor apprenticeship programme, you will undertake online learning, supplemented by live webinars and face-to-face skills sessions. The breakdown of this is 80% on the job learning with 20% off the job learning (study and training) with 1 day out of the office a week for studies.

By the end of the programme, you'll be a fully qualified lawyer, having gained an LLB (Hons) from University of Law and will have completed the SQE 1, 2, & Plus.

What we are looking for

We are looking for those who are interested in marine law and committed to a career as a solicitor at Clyde & Co in Guildford, as well as the following:

  • Achieved, or on track to achieve, an AAB at A-Level or equivalent (mitigating circumstances will be considered)
  • 7 GCSEs at grade 6/B, including Maths and English

Please note, if you are a university graduate, you are not eligible for this position, and we advise you look at our other programmes.

What

We offer a competitive salary and benefits package as a solicitor apprentice. You will also be entitled to a range of rewards and benefits:

  • Private medical
  • Dental insurance
  • Pension scheme
  • Group income protection
  • Parental/family leave pay
  • Holiday purchase
  • Season ticket loan
