Trainee Solicitor

Job description

Training at Fladgate combines a first-class education programme with real hands-on experience and client contact. The nature of our business and small intake of trainees each year means you will be given exposure to high quality work with lots of responsibility from an early stage. We don’t expect you to learn by sitting on the side lines or standing at the photocopier; you will gain first-hand experience on a variety of deals both large and small. Where possible you will be given every opportunity to develop your drafting and negotiating skills in real life situations.

Our two year training programme is divided into six seats of four months. Each of our trainees will complete core seats in contentious and non-contentious areas.

What we are looking for

  • We seek trainees with enthusiasm, leadership potential and excellent interpersonal skills.
  • You must be able to work both independently, and in a team, and will be expected to show common sense and initiative.
  • A minimum of a 2.1 degree, although not necessarily in law, together with three excellent A levels or equivalent.
  • A commitment to a career in law
  • Excellent organisation, communication and teamwork skills
  • Reliable and dependable with meticulous attention to detail
  • Ability to work with technology packages such as Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Awareness of the commercial interests of clients is essential.
  • Work experience in a legal or professional services environment would be advantageous but is not essential

How to apply

We solely recruit trainees through our summer vacation scheme.

The first stage is an online application form including brief essay style questions via AllHires. If shortlisted, you will then complete an online test(s) and may be invited to undertake a short pre-recorded video interview. The next stage is an in-person assessment day with both individual and group exercises. Following the assessment days, shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend a face-to-face interview, with a Partner and a member of the recruitment team.

We will select up to 22 candidates to attend one of two week-long summer vacation schemes, which will be taking place on the weeks commencing 22 June and 29 June 2026. We will make up to 11 offers for a training contract commencing in September 2028.
