Queen’s University Belfast is a member of the Russell Group, a group of 24 leading UK research intensive universities. We are ranked 24th in the UK for Research Power with 88% of research submitted by Queen’s has been assessed as world-leading or internationally excellent (REF 2021/ Times Higher Education).

We continue to drive forward research to shape worlds, focusing on five key areas. Ensuring a healthy living for all through developing solutions and treatments for diseases; helping to deliver a transformative and sustainable economy for future generations; leading on secure connected intelligence and AI and the data revolution. We are at the forefront of delivering future focused through human environment relations; and will continue our strong history of expertise in conflict resolution and building inclusive and cohesive communities.

A world class Graduate School

The Graduate School is located in the beautifully restored and remodelled Victorian Lynn library, where distinguished heritage meets 21st-century vision. This fully accessible space has modern, hi-tech meeting and group study rooms, a silent study area and social spaces. It's a vibrant hub, inspiring intellectual exchange and collaboration. Here, students make valuable connections, benefit from mentoring relationships and networks, and from our international partnerships with other graduate schools.

We focus on employability

Queen’s is first in the Russell Group for graduate employability and further study (HESA Graduate Outcomes, 2021/22). Postgraduates develop readiness for the future and the ability to be confident in managing their own career, whether in academia or beyond. As well as central career and employer events, Graduate School employability programmes, ‘Future Ready’ and ‘Master Your Future Success’ prepares postgraduate students for their next steps.

Queen’s Graduate Plus award is a vehicle for accrediting work-related learning and skills that current postgraduate taught students develop through extra-curricular activities, including the range of skills development workshops offered by the Graduate School. The Graduate Plus is a specific award for Master's students and is recognised by a range of employers.

Our new state-of-the art building One Elmwood, brings the Students’ Union and Student Services together under one roof—creating a space where support, study, and social life seamlessly blend from your first question to your final year.

Situated across from the historic Lanyon building, it has everything you’d expect, from bars and entertainment venues to student kitchen facilities. There are spaces to relax, shops, cafes, and tech-friendly study zones.

This is a new heartbeat for campus life, with a range of support services, and loads of different activities to help you make friends, try something new, and develop your skills throughout your time at Queen’s.

By choosing Queen’s Accommodation, students enjoy the convenience and reassurance of university-managed housing, with dedicated support tailored to their living needs. This includes a vibrant Residential Life Programme with over 500 events each year, dedicated pastoral care, a 24/7 safety and security team, and regular maintenance — all designed to help students feel supported and at home.

Our purpose-built postgraduate accommodation, Willow Walk located at Elms village BT9, offers a mix of studio, one, two, three, and four-bedroom apartments, each with a modern contemporary design.

For more independent living, Queen's Houses offer postgraduate students all-important flexibility. Mount Charles, just two minutes from the main campus and located off Botanic Avenue, places students right in the heart of one of Belfast’s most vibrant and lively neighbourhoods.
