Job description
This position is a four-year apprenticeship leading to a Maintenance and Operations Engineering Level 3 qualification. On-the-job practical training will also be provided. A Civil Aviation Authority approved training plan will also be followed that, upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, will lead to becoming a fully qualified and licenced Air Traffic Safety Electronics Technician.
During the four-year programme, you will:
- Work under the direct supervision of the Air Traffic Engineering Team, working and being involved in the installation, repair and maintenance equipment.
- Achieve deadlines set through regular attendance and assessment, taking responsibility for own self-development and setting goals to obtain the required technical and related health and safety qualifications.
- Assist with routine departmental administrative tasks, and the control and documentation of spares and stock.
- Seek assistance from peers and managers when required.
- Be prepared to accept feedback about personal strengths and development needs in order to improve.
- Be dedicated to long term learning, displaying commitment and enthusiasm, maintaining flexibility and a positive outlook at all times.
- Actively seek knowledge about the airport environment in order to enhance learning.
- Gain an understanding of the role of the section and department, and to develop an appreciation of how the Engineering function fits into the business.
- Develop effective problem-solving skills and an ability to complete tasks using established systems.
- Be innovative, tackling problems or tasks from a different perspective.
- Participate in projects and working parties, and to carry out any other duties that may be outside the standard remit for the purpose of personal development.
- Ensure that all work is carried out in accordance with current Health and Safety Regulations, to ensure the safety of yourself, other employees and the general public.

- Must be a team player, able to work successfully with others at all levels by demonstrating effective two-way communication skills with peers, managers and customers.
- Able to demonstrate focus, concentration and care required in a safety critical aviation environment
- 5 GCSEs grades A*-C/9-4 (including English, Maths and Science/Physics)
- Must live in England and have the right to work in the UK (Government funding requirement)
- Must be able to travel to Nottingham College and East Midlands Airport
- Must be able to work shift work and travel to and from the airport outside normal working hours.
- The role will be day working for the first two years. This will change to shift working in years three and four.
