Next steps

With Get Into Teaching, you’ll receive one-to-one support from an adviser with years of experience in the classroom. They will help to guide you through the steps and answer any questions you may have.

With generous bursaries and scholarships available across certain subjects, including STEM, you’ll get advice on how to fund your training year.

You’ll find out about opportunities for a taste of life in the classroom, such as school experience days or paid internships.

You’ll learn about the career progression teaching offers, with a minimum starting salary of £32.9k (or more in London) and the opportunity to earn over £45k within 5 years.

Initial Teacher Training (ITT)

If you’re interested in a career that offers many opportunities for progression, alongside personal satisfaction and the chance to share your subject passion, teaching may be for you.

Get Into Teaching provides a comprehensive programme of support and guidance throughout the Initial Teacher Training application process.

• Requirements - To train to teach at secondary level, you'll need a degree in any subject, and a standard equivalent GCSE grade C or 4 in maths and English.

Teaching Internship

If you’re studying for an undergraduate or master's degree and interested in teaching, an internship could help you to understand what it’s really like in the classroom.

• Application open - February 2026
• Deadline - June 2026
• Salary - £425 per week minimum
• Duration - 3 weeks
• Location - England
• Requirements - You'll need to be studying for a related undergraduate or master's degree and interested in teaching one of the following: chemistry, computing, languages, maths, physics.

What to expect on the day

• Help and support – there will be lots of people to help and guide you – whether you’re exploring your careers options or have decided that training to be a teacher is right for you
• Meet a teacher – your chance to chat with our friendly teachers from a range of backgrounds and listen to the questions and experience of other attendees
• Presentations – attend presentations that give a general overview of teacher training and practical advice for your application
